Watch the beginning of BattleTech ahead of the launch next week

BattleTech is set to launch on PC on 24th April 2018, and the opening scene of the game is now available to watch.

Publisher Paradox Interactive has uploaded the game’s intro cinematic to YouTube, which takes the form of a partially animated slideshow instead of a full 3D cutscene.

It’s more focused on the story leading up to the start of the game instead of the complex, turn-based mech combat that forms the gameplay here.

If you’re interested in buying this game, the regional pricing on Steam is superb. The US price of $40 (~R480) is replaced with a local price of just R219. Even with that low price we still recommend waiting a few days after launch to see the initial reviews and reactions.

Make sure to poke around the Steam page to see more of the game in action. From the marketing material and the community content from betas, it’s looking to be a very deep game with a lot going on at any one moment.

We’ve heard it described as XCOM with more complicity, more mechs, and more space opera, which all sounds like a winning combination to us.

Despite having the pedigree of the Shadowrun series behind them, developer Harebrained Schemes’ last game Necropolis was not at all a success. It left people very worried about BattleTech and its quality, so there’s nothing to do but wait and see.
