Gear Of The Year 2017 – Our readers pick their top consumer ISPs

With internet service providers popping up locally all the time, consumers are no longer hard pressed for choice.

The role of the internet service provider has evolved, and ISPs now have multiple internet access solutions available. ADSL, LTE and Fibre connectivity are standard fare for the tech savvy and our readers have spoken when it comes to picking their top ISPs.

Afrihost (31.6%)

Afrihost takes the lead in the ISP category with over 31.6% of our readers having voted for them as their ISP of choice.

With a proven track record of consistent, reliable and affordable service, Afrihost’s range of internet access options and stellar customer service places it ahead of the pack.

Consumers can choose from a variety of internet access options but what stands out is Afrihost’s most basic uncapped ADSL packages. From as little as R99 a month for 1mbps uncapped internet access, consumers need not break the bank to get online. Afrihost’s fibre offerings are no slouch either. Their FTTH packages are well priced and include free installation too (subject to Ts and Cs).

Telkom (24.6%)

Telkom holds 24.6% of the consumer vote and with good reason. The company has significantly stepped up their game as of late and service delivery has improved.

With new Telkom fibre cables constantly being laid across South Africa, Telkom’s FTTH userbase is set to greatly expand. Telkom’s bundled home connectivity packages (Both ADSL and FTTH) offer consumers excellent value for money and this coupled with their LIT_box service has cemented their place in the consumer market. Telkom also offers significantly discounted monthly deals and specials which consumers can take advantage of.

Vox Telecom (7.4%)

Vox Telecom’s 7.4% consumer vote is not one to scoff at. The company is most well known for its business offerings, but consumers can take advantage of their excellent service too.

Vox Telecom offers fibre-to-the-home, LTE-A, ADSL, VDSL and even Satellite internet connectivity for home users. Having recently partnered up with ShowMax for many of their consumer deals, users can enjoy fast, reliable internet and get to watch quality television content while using their service. With a truly business oriented approach, Vox Telecom’s consumer division ensures that end users will get the best service possible.

Afrihost’s consistency in the ISP market is what sets them apart from others in the field. Afrihost’s user friendly client-zone allows consumers to easily manage their accounts and the company prides itself on delivering reliable service that you can count on. Should any problems arise, Afrihost’client support reliably communicates with consumers and resolves issues with ease.

Vox Telecom is a close second in terms of support, but Afrihost gets my final vote as best consumer ISP.
