Gear Of The Year 2017 – SMME Business Desktops

In the current age of information and technology, business desktops are an integral part of any company operating within any industry.

Whether it’s finance or supply chain and logistics, a business desktop is probably being used to manage some aspect of the business. Picking the right device is therefore a key consideration. Thankfully, there’s a range of PC companies out there that cater specifically to these needs. In our survey, Dell secured the top spot with 41.7% of the vote going their way, and with good reason.

Touting excellent after sales support and a business model that specifically caters to small to medium enterprises in the business sector, Dell’s desktops deliver above average performance at an attractive price point.

Their All-In-One range of workstations are affordable and since the company offers tailor made solutions for businesses that require specific needs to be met, Dell is not easily beaten.

The Dell Precision Rack 7910 for example offers a scalable business solution ideal for secure remote users or multiple users in a virtualised environment. Dell’s Precision Tower 7810 is another perfect example how powerful their workstations can be – It features either the latest Nvidia Quadro or AMD FirePro graphics processing units to do most of the heavy lifting required by large data sets and creative programs alike.

HP received 23.3% of the SMME vote placing them second overall. The company has established themselves within the market as a trusted, reliable and affordable business desktop provider. HP offers a range of workstations that won’t break the bank and still deliver the performance required by SMMEs.

The EliteOne range of All-In-One workstations caters to a niche spot in the market yet is cost effective considering what you get which each of the devices. Additionally, HP’s lower end desktop towers are highly affordable and may be perfect for a small home office. Coupled with HP’s support options, the company is hard to ignore if you’re running an SMME that requires reliability and consistency.

Lenovo takes the third place on the podium for business desktops with 11.7% of the SMME vote. Their ThinkStation range of business desktops have been a staple in the business world for quite some time now and the current iterations in their product range are packing powerful Intel Xeon processors.

These workstations aren’t pushovers and even the lowest end desktop on offer is still capable enough of handling many intensive programs. Their P920 ThinkStation stands out above the rest of their range though and can handle even the toughest ISV-certified applications.

A business desktop is an essential part of any enterprise and thankfully, SMMEs are spoiled for choice.

The likes of Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, and Apple all have products that may suit a specific need. The constant competition between these companies for a share of the market means that innovation is not to be stifled and SMMEs benefit in the process.
