Mmusi Maimane is visiting SMME hubs in Gauteng this week

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane will be visiting SMME hubs in both Tshwane and Johannesburg this week.

The visit forms part of the DA’s push to bring young black entrepreneurs to the foreground.

Maimane along with Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga and DA Gauteng Provincial Leader John Moodey will visit the Khoebo Opportunity Centre in Johannesburg CBD and eKasiLab at Tshwane North College’s Mamelodi Campus on Wednesday 25th April.

These hubs provide entrepreneurs with the tools and support they need to build their businesses into ones which are not only successful but create additional job opportunities.

The DA has been pushing for greater support for SMMEs from government in 2018. Following the 2018 budget speech Maimane said that current laws and legislation deterred entrepreneurs from starting businesses.

“We need a fairer labour market. Current legislation favours the employed over the unemployed, the skilled over the unskilled, incumbents over new entrants (hence our youth unemployment rate of 50%) and big businesses over small businesses,” wrote Maimane earlier this year.

“Young people, and businesses with fewer than 250 employees should be exempted from restrictive labour legislation, other than basic conditions of employment – including minimum wage legislation.  This is the only way Ramaphosa is going to fulfil his promise of one million internships in three years,” added the DA leader.
