Sega have announced the Mega Drive Mini

Following in the footsteps of the NES and SNES Mini consoles that Nintendo released fairly recently, Sega have officially announced their own Mega Drive Mini at Sega FES 2018.

The miniature device pays homage to the original Sega Mega Drive which launched 30 years ago in Japan (Feel old yet?) and will contain 15 preloaded games. The games themselves however, have not yet been revealed.

Additionally, Sega also announced that it would be bringing a number of classic games to the Nintendo Switch this winter. Studio M2 will be working on these re-releases and so far only three titles have been confirmed: Sonic The Hedgehog, Phantasy Star and Thunder Force 4.

Gamers can rest assured that the quality of the re-releases on Nintendo Switch will be top notch since Studio M2 has previously worked on the Sega 3D Classics Collection for Nintendo 3DS.

No release date or pricing has been given for the Sega Mega Drive Mini but according to Sega, it will be released in Japan first and then make its way to other territories.

If the Mega Drive Mini is as popular as the SNES Mini, gamers should prepare themselves to encounter pre-order scalpers.
