Game critic John ‘TotalBiscuit’ Bain has passed away

Finding the words to write this story is tough.

The first time I stumbled across a video made by John Bain – better known as TotalBiscuit – I was looking for reviews for Batman Arkham Knight.

The video I found was of Bain panning the developers for a shoddy PC port. It was equal parts informative, funny and entertaining. I was hooked and to this day I listen to his Co-Optional podcast.

Today I woke up to the sad news that after a four year long battle with bowel cancer, Bain passed away on 24th May.

The game critic and shoutcaster for StarCraft 2 and Planetside 2 has been fighting back against the disease since 2014, undergoing chemotherapy and radiation in a bid to rid his body of cancer.

Sadly, after going into remission, the scourge that is cancer returned attacking his liver and spine.

Earlier this month Bain announced he would be retiring from game criticism due to his failing health. Despite being in immense pain Bain had continued to work, covering game releases, tweeting and even appearing on the H3H3 Podcast a few months ago. We highly recommend giving that interview a watch.

The critic was 33 when he passed and is survived by his wife Genna Bain.
