Know Your Friends – A Wii U game Ubisoft never released

With the Nintendo Switch righting so many of the Wii U’s wrongs, it seems only fitting to once again visit the older console and a piece of abandoned software in the form of Know Your Friends.

This game was created by Ubisoft back when the publisher was an avid supporter of the Wii U. As a party game that was set to utilise the unique hardware of the console, it was finished but never released.

Game historian Liam Robertson has dug this game up complete with a history of its development and some gameplay footage.

Know Your Friends was set to be a game where you would answer questions about those playing. The GamePad allowed players to answer these questions privately, and the camera was used to insert players’ faces into the game.

With great feedback from inside of Ubisoft, the title was completed and kept for a later date when the Wii U had a bigger install base.

Of course, that never happened and the game floundered around inside of the company with its team experimenting with ports to both mobile devices and other consoles.

Right now no version of the game has ever been officially announced or released, but we have to imagine this complete game is sitting on a hard drive somewhere waiting for its day.

We could see this game working best on mobile, but the Switch would also make a good place for it if Ubisoft wants to come full circle with Nintendo’s consoles.

For now we can only hope that this video stirs up interest in the title, and some official word from the publisher comes up in the future.
