Today is the last day for Gauteng online school applications

Parents hoping to secure a space for their children in Grade 1 and Grade 8 next year have until midnight today to submit applications online.

Applications have been open since mid-April and the Gauteng education department reports that some 535 064 applications have been processed thus far.

“We are indebted to all parents who have heeded to our call and applied in numbers. The response from the public was indeed overwhelming. We encourage those that have applied to conform to the stipulated deadline,” MEC Panyaza Lesufi said.

While the online application system did experience some problems at launch, the process has been relatively smooth since then.

Parents who have applied have also been reminded to submit supporting documents to the applicable school by 5th June.

The department says that parents should receive offers of placement from 18th July. If you have not received an offer by 3rd August, we recommend contacting the department.

Parents have also been warned to not wait until after midnight to submit applications.

“The department is moving away from late applications and parents who do not apply online by midnight on the 28 May 2018 are running the risk of having their children out of school in January 2019,” the Gauteng education department said.

Between 6th August and 31st October, the department will assist learners who could not be placed at schools.
