3D Printed BattleTech Huntsman is articulated and impressively painted

Back in May South African maker Robert Davie showed us his 3D printed and articulated Atlas following the release of BattleTech, and now he’s back with the Huntsman.

Like Atlas, this Huntsman started life as a model ripped from MechWarrior Online. Unfortunately, like most game rips, the files were far from usable and needed a lot of work before they could be printed.

Davie tells us that most of this work was done in Meshmixer with some fixing in Netfabb. After fixing the meshes many other errors such as missing and intersecting parts needed to be seen to.

With a printable model the articulation was added to the hips, legs and arms. Including test printing and the addition of optional weapons, the design process took around three weeks.

Printing the 12.5 centimetre-tall Huntsman ate up around 22 hours with the largest part – the torso – needing seven hours alone, together with a lot of support material.

The complex paint job was achieved with Army Painter matt black primer and the Citadel range for everything else. Davie tells us he did a bit of experimenting to get this more exotic colour scheme, so make sure you get a closer in the gallery below.

To make your own version start with the files available for free from Thingiverse. Also check back here in a month or so to see the Hellbringer given the same treatment.
