Here are the first 10 minutes of Mothergunship

Our review of Mothergunship is now live for everyone to read, but we wanted to speak a bit more about the opening of the game and touch on some aspects we didn’t manage to get to.

We’ve recorded our gameplay of the opening section of the game, which is a ~10 minute tutorial. This gives you a good look at the story and voice acting work we mentioned in the review.

It’s also, of course, a demo of the gameplay on offer. The tutorial doesn’t go too deep into the weapon crafting that Mothergunship boasts about in its marketing, but the movement system and enemies are shown off.

With the settings on high the game also runs very smoothly on our ageing hardware – an i5-4690K and R9-280X ran this title perfectly. Through all our hours of play we only saw a handful of drops in the FPS, but this was only as we entered a room with dozens of enemies in it.

If you’re worried about performance make sure you check out the minimum and recommended specs on the Steam page. Given our experience it seems like these are a bit of overkill. The game is also available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One if you’d prefer to experience it on console.

The console ports seem to have some strange properties when looking at the South African stores. Firstly, the price is way off: it’s R400 for PS4 and only R200 on Xbox.

Also: the Xbox version states that the game features in-app purchases, but we didn’t encounter any of those in our playthrough. EDIT: One of the developers has told us that it’s an error.

If you want to play for free: the gun crafting range demo is still available on all platforms.
