San Diego Comic Con 2018 is currently underway, which means trailers and news for upcoming superhero movies and TV series is in the offing. One trailer that has already seen the light of day is DC Titans, and by the looks of it, things aren’t so happy-go-lucky.

Featuring heavily in the trailer are Robin and Raven, played by Brenton Thwaites and Teagan Croft respectively. It appears as if both are dealing with their own demons, although Raven’s might be a bit more real than most.

Also, Robin (the Dick Grayson version) seems to be operating solo and has developed a bit of a potty mouth in the process, replying to a group of thugs when asked where the Dark Knight is with “F@#k Batman.”

As such, things are probably not hunky dory at Wayne Manor.

We also get to see Starfire and Beast Boy, although the full extent of the latter’s powers are not on display.

With DC’s recent TV properties going the darker and lighter routes of late, it seems that DC Titans will be adopting a similar tone to Arrow or Gotham.

Whether fans of the series react positively to this take on the Teen Titans, remains to be seen, but early consensus appears to be mixed.

The trailer below (NSFW) for example is about 50-50 when it comes to likes and dislikes, with comments echoing the same mixed reaction.

Consequently anyone expecting the same fun and lighthearted tone of the cartoon versions of Teen Titans will be sorely disappointed.

DC Titans will hit screens Stateside later this year, but a precise date has not been mentioned.
