Bang & Olufsen dropping B&O Play brand name

Danish audio and visual hardware brand Bang & Olufsen has announced a change to one of its sub-brands B&O Play (or Beoplay).

The sub-brand included earphones, headphones and portable speakers at a slightly more affordable price compared to the company’s flagship devices, will no longer be using the B&O Play name.

That’s not to say that Beoplay products are done and dusted, but rather that all the devices in the range are being folded into the larger Bang & Olufsen banner.

The company revealed in an annual report recently of its plan, with the decision prompted by the fact that consumers noted confusion as to which brand was which.

While we cannot attest to such claims, we’re assuming Bang & Olufsen has done the necessary research before undertaking such a decision, especially as Beoplay accounts for 47 percent of the company’s annual revenue.

What this means if you walk into a local Bang & Olufsen standalone store a couple of months down the line is unclear, but we’re guessing not much will change in that respect.

Should you wish to purchase devices from the B&O Play website, you can still do so, with no indication from the Danish company that it will shut down or have its contents shifted elsewhere.
