Netflix adds Ultra plan for select countries in the EU

For some time now Netlfix has served up three different plan/monthly payment tiers for its streaming service, but there could soon be a fourth.

CordCutting has notified by some Netflix users in select countries in the EU that a new tier has been added to the mix – Ultra.

This latest tier is their most expensive to date, and is currently set at between €16.99 (Italy) and $19.99 (Germany) per month depending on the country, which is slightly more than the Premium package at €13.99, according to CordCutting.

As far as how this Ultra plan differs from Premium, it adds HDR support in conjunction with 4K UHD resolution devices.

The other more concerning aspect to this new addition is the number of screens that one can have watching and streaming separate Netflix shows. Ultra has up to 4 screens, and now Premium has been halved to two, which users of the service will no doubt be frustrated by.

Netflix has not issued an official statement to CordCutting on the reason for the new tier, as well as the subsequent change to Premium, nor has it mentioned whether this latest plan will be launched in other regions of the world where the streaming service is available.

For now the pricing options on Netflix’s South African site remain the same at $7.99 (~R110) for Basic, $9.99 (~R137) for Standard and $11.99 (~R165) for Premium.
