Evangelion Unit-01 is now a suitably large 3D print

While the wait for the fourth Evangelion rebuild movie continues, we’ve found something to keep you and your printer occupied in this impressively detailed model of Unit-01.

This comes to us from the talented maker and friend of the site Morgan Morey known as “Printed Obsession” online. Morey is known for these figurine-quality designs, hopping between Overwatch, Star Wars, DC and more.

This version of Unit-01 was modelled in ZBrush in just 10 hours, spread over three weeks. If you’ve ever wanted to see this process live, make sure you check out the Printed Obsession Twitch channel where the VOD for this is available.

With the modelling work done printing took 12 hours in SLA. As these kinds of prints usually come out so clean, there’s no sanding or other finishing here, aside from some grey spray paint to make it a bit more uniform.

At 30 centimetres tall you will need to budget a lot of plastic if you want to make your own, something you can start on by downloading the files for free from MyMiniFactory.

As with most of Morey’s prints, this one is a single colour, but he tells us that he’s learning to paint as a side project and we may see his designs with more colour in the future.

If you want to see a variant of this print which is both fully painted as well as closer to the size of the “real” thing, we’ll soon be featuring this community make that is almost twice the size of the one on this page, and weighs in at 2.5 kilograms.
