Showmax is the perfect way to enjoy your movies wherever you are.

But what if you want to kick back on the couch and watch a movie with the family? In the past you would have to fuss with your laptop and cables to connect your TV to your computer and then the things wouldn’t play nicely. It was a chore.

Those days are behind us now and if you happen to be a DStv customer with an Explora decoder you can connect your Showmax account and access it as if you were simply watching another TV channel.

You will need a few things before we begin. First off you will have to live in South Africa, own an Explora decoder, have an active DStv subscription and have that decoder connected to the internet. At the very least you should have an internet connection with a download speed of at least 2Mbps but for the best picture quality you’ll need a minimum download speed of 10Mbps.

Step 1

First things first you’ll need to connect your DStv Explora to the internet via an ethernet cable or using the DStv WiFi Connector. You can find detailed step-by-step instructions on how to do that here.

Step 2

Once your DStv Explora is connected to the internet hit the blue DStv button on your Explora remote. For those with an Explora 2 you can simply press the dedicated Showmax button.

Step 3

Once you have pressed the button look for the “Watch Now” option and select Showmax.

Step 4

Find something on Showmax that you’d like to watch by scrolling through the selection with the arrow buttons and pusk OK when you’ve found something you want to watch.

Step 5

Once you’ve found a movie or show you’d like to watch and pressed OK on your Explora remote you will be asked to sign into Showmax with your account.

If you haven’t signed up for Showmax yet then now is the time to do that. DStv Premium subscribers get a Showmax Subscription for free and Compact and Compact plus subscribers can add Showmax to their bill for just R49 (that’s a R50 discount on the full price).

To add Showmax to your DStv bill or claim your free subscription go to Manage Account once you’ve signed up and select DStv to add your account as the payment method.

Enter your South Africa ID number, confirm your mobile number and a one-time-PIN will be SMSed to you to verify your account. Read and accept the terms and conditions and just like that, DStv and Showmax are linked.

Step 6

All that’s left to do is start binge-watching your favourite movies and shows.

Remember that you can link up to five devices to your Showmax account and you can watch on up to two screens at once, bringing an end to the remote wars of days gone by.
