Been waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay? Here’s almost an hour of it

Since the initial reveal more than five years ago, we’ve seen very little of Cyberpunk 2077, but that changed last night.

The game’s Twitch channel began streaming random characters for hours on end before the big reveal: 48 minutes of gameplay from an unfinished version of the game.

Going by the “all buses show up at once principle”, there’s a lot to sort through here. We definitely suggest watching through the video, which is now on YouTube and embedded below, but we’ll provide some footnotes here.

Firstly, the game is very true to the trailer that was shown at E3 recently. The environments of Night City are very lively, packed to the brim with NPCs and near-future neon advertising we’re so familiar with in this genre.

The first bit we get to see is a seemingly simple rescue mission where some of the first person shooting is shown off. This looks relatively simple at first but they expand on it by showing off some late-game firepower and abilities near the end of the walkthrough.

More exciting than guns that can shoot through walls and around the corners, are the mantis blades and the ability to wall run. Outside of guns there are a few other non-firearm options for combat, which we hope is even deeper in the final game.

Aside from combat this is, at its heart, an RPG, and we get to see a lot of branching mission choices centered around retrieving a robot from a heavily-armed gang. As with many games of this type, you can choose how to approach every mission, trying to forego violence for the more diplomatic approach, especially around playing the City’s rival powers against each other.

And Night City itself is shaping up to be a big part of the experience here, as the player is free to drive around. When the vehicle section was first shown off here we were afraid it would be on rails, but it looks to be an entirely open roaming experience with cars, bikes and more to drive.

While all of this boils down to a sales pitch, CD Projekt Red has accrued so much good will with us, and the gaming community as a whole, that we trust the final game to deliver on the promises in this video.

Despite rumours of a June 2019 release, Cyberpunk 2077 has no firm date yet, so it may be a while before the finished product is out and we can see how closely things match up.

If you’re also foaming at the mouth for more, all we can suggest is heading to the official website for the game, signing up to their newsletter, and following their official social media accounts.

After waiting so many years just to just see this title in action, hopefully the wait for the release won’t be as bad.
