Hellbringer joins the ranks of articulated BattleTech 3D prints

South African maker Robert Davie has been absolutely prolific in his recreations of mechs from BattleTech / MechWarrior Online, as today the Hellbringer marks the third completed project of its kind.

Before this we featured the Atlas and Huntsman with all three sharing the characteristics of an impressive size, multiple points of articulation, and superb paint jobs.

Like the others, this Hellbringer was ripped from MechWarrior Online, but Davie tells us that it needed much less work in Meshmixer and Netfabb to make it printable.

This meant that more time could be dedicated to adding extra weapon and part detailing, and the articulation went by much smoother thanks to experience from the other mechs.

With the files perfected printing out the 13 centimetre model took around 23 hours. At this height it’s a bit taller than the Huntsman (12.5 centimetres) and reaches around chest height compared to the Atlas (14 centimetres).

For the colours Army Painter matte black primer was used first, followed by Citadel and Vallejo acrylics. This was then sealed with a protective coat and then Tamiya’s TS-80 flat clear. Finally, some gloss was applied to certain sections such as the laser lenses and the cockpit.

Those looking to make their own can find the files available for free on Thingiverse.

Aside from needing enough filament if you want to print this large, take care with the arms which have the most articulation yet. With four swivel joints, a rotating joint, and a ball joint, there are six points of articulation here.

Davie has already printed out the iconic Timberwolf, and we’ll be featuring that finished and painted print in the future.
