A quick look at the first episode of South African animation Moosebox

While there was a lot to do on Heritage Day yesterday, we spent a small portion of it watching Moosebox – a locally-made animated show premiering on Nicktoons Africa.

This first season of the series was recently announced and said to have a 20-episode run. We attended a panel about the show at Comic Con Africa where we learned more about the show and its creators, but no release date was revealed at the time.

That changed early yesterday when we learned that the show would be available to watch on Nicktoons, DStv channel 308, starting from 24th September.

This first episode titled “Headspace” involved one of the titular characters – Moose – being abducted into a puzzle zone which looks to be based off of Monument Valley.

If you missed this first episode the show will air on the same channel at 16:24 local time every day. We do suggest searching for “Moosebox” on the DStv online guide in case that changes in the future.

Those outside of South Africa will also be able to watch the show through the Nickelodeon Play app, though we’re not sure when it will be available there or which countries will get it.

We’re extremely excited about this local production and we urge you to check it out, as well as our primer for the show and our report from Comic Con Africa.

We’ve had advanced screenings of two more episodes which we’ll be able to talk more about when they air, but you can watch a trailer for the series below.
