Epson is giving universities the chance to win three robots

Hollywood and this bloke would have you believe that robots are coming for humanity and we’re all doomed.

The truth is that right now robots are useful and can do labourious, repetitive tasks that can be automated. As my colleague Robin-Leigh Chetty learned last week, artificial intelligence is meant to complement humanity not replace it.

With that in mind we’d like to point you to a competition that Epson currently has on the go in which universities, research facilities and other higher education institutions can enter to win up to three robots.

“As automation continues to expand, many new and innovative applications for robots are in development. Revolutionising industry and other sectors, they have the potential to radically improve the quality of our working lives. This competition is designed to nurture and inspire the next generation of technologists,” the head of robotics solutions at Epson EMEA, Volker Spanier said in a statement.

So how exactly can your institution win these robots?

Institutions will need to submit a proposal for how the Epson T-series robots can be used in innovative ways. The ideas will be judged on:

  • Innovation
  • Education
  • Skills development
  • Unique robot usage
  • Sustainability

Applications are currently open and close later this year on 15th December. Once entries are closed a shortlist of participants will be invited to present their ideas to a panel of judges.

Given that this contest is open to all countries in the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions the competition is sure to be fierce but if your institution is in need of an Epson T or VT series robot this might be an easy way to get one.
