Google redesigns Chrome browser for 10th anniversary

Google celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Chrome browser over the weekend – 2nd September to be more precise.

To mark the occasion Google gave it a bit of a redesign, bringing all versions of the offering in line with the company’s Material 2 aesthetic.

The redesign went through a couple of rounds of beta testing, but now Google is ready to release its new version to the world, with updates set to be rolled out in coming days.

What does the redesign add?

Some changes are a bit more superficial with the previous tab shape (which are trapezoidal according to Engadget) now being swapped for something a bit more streamlined and made to make it easier to view web icons.

Added to this for mobile, the iOS version of Chrome drops the toolbar to the bottom, with menus, notifications and address bar looking far more clean than before.

More significant adjustments include the search bar (or omnibar as it is now known), with some answers for searches appearing in the search bar, such the weather or information on a current affair.

Also enhanced is the accuracy of autofill, customisations of backgrounds for newly opened tabs and built-in password generation, to name some of the few elements that Google has tackled.

We haven’t encountered the new version of Chrome via update just yet, but if you have, let us know your thoughts on the changes on Facebook and Twitter, and whether you’ll be using Chrome as your go-to browser for the next decade.
