What next week’s EduTECH Africa 2018 exhibition has in store

There’s less than a week to go before the fourth annual EduTECH Africa exhibition and conference, which will be happening on the 9th and 10th October at the Sandton Convention Centre.

This exhibition brings together thought leaders in education from across Africa, as well as expert guest speakers from the rest of the world.

Some of the most cutting edge education-focused technologies will also be on show at the two-day long event.

The exhibition is expecting to pull more than 3 500 attendees, with over 150 speakers, eight keynote addresses and 120-plus exhibitions this year.

So what else can you expect from next week’s EduTECH Africa conference?

Gaining access

For you to register to attend the event, check out the expo page for instructions on how to get into EduTECH.

There are three different packages to choose from.

First is the free individual pass which will grant you access via a visitor badge and entry into the seminar theatres.

Next is the pre-event plus the gold pass option. It costs R5 770 individually or R5 165 per person when booking for a group of three or more. This option will gain you access to the pre-event workshop, VIP conference, networking, lunch and refreshments, as well as entry into the seminar theatres.

Last is the gold pass without the pre-event access. This ticket will cost R4 675 per person while booking in groups of three or more will yield a discounted price of R4 210 per person. You’ll then have access to the VIP conference, networking, lunch, refreshments and the seminar theatres.

Topics and speakers

There are two seminars happening on each of the days, with day one focusing on the digital library with Snapplify, ICT in education and cyber security.

On the second day the focus will be on breaking barriers to online education, teaching science with technology and tools to personalise learning.

This year organisers added a new feature with the introduction of interactive experience zones, which enables attendees to gain a better understanding of the products on show, as well as give teachers the chance to experience 21st century skills that can be implemented in education. These include robotics, coding and virtual reality, with demos available.

Secondary and tertiary institutions will also be in attendance this year. This includes the University of Melbourne, Dainfern College, University of Cape Town, the Australian International School, University of Venda, ADvTECH group, Bryanston High School, Nelson Mandela University and the Vaal University of Technology to name a few. Some of these institutions will have guest speakers at EduTECH, along with interacting with other attendees.

EduTECH Africa 2018 also has a number of keynote speakers over the two days. Some of the notable keynote speakers are:

  • The Honourable Enver Surly from the Department of Education (South Africa)
  • Ian Russell CEO of BCX and board member of iamtheCODE (South Africa)
  • Dr Neelam Parmar, director of E-Learning, Ashford School, United Learning (UK)
  • Professor Chris Rogers, Department chair and Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, TUFTS University (USA)
  • Wangeci Kanjama head of Wholesale, Safaricom Wholesale (Kenya).

With EduTECH Africa aiming to raise the bar for education on the continent using technology, this exhibition will be worthwhile for educators looking to make a difference and adopt new approaches.
