HMD Global introduces new Nokia 7.1

It has been a few months since a new Nokia Mobile branded device saw the light of day, and if you’ve been following the release of smartphones now that HMD Global is at the helm there’s an offering that might pique your interest – the Nokia 7.1.

This latest device is an upgrade on the Nokia 7 handset that was revealed around this time last year, hence the .1 addition to the name.

While the Nokia 7.1 is not vastly improved compared to its predecessor, it does feature a few notable upgrades. The first is an improved screen, namely a FullHD+ 5.84″ panel with what Nokia is calling PureDisplay technology. According to the company it delivers a higher contrast and supports HDR content, along with producing greater clarity.

As for the rest of the device, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset is doing the heavy lifting, with 3GB or 4GB RAM models on offer. Added to this is a 32GB or 64GB onboard storage options, with a microSD slot taking care of up to a further 400GB.

On the camera side of things, a dual lens setup is found on the rear with a 12MP and 5MP orientation. Up front a single lens is pulling duty at 8MP.

Other elements include a 3060mAh battery, USB Type-C connection for charging and data transfer, rear fingerprint sensor and support for LTE Cat.6.

The Nokia 7.1 is set to retail for €319 (~R5 448) for the 3GB model and €349 (~R5 961) for the 4GB variant.

No word yet on when it will land in SA, or indeed for how much.
