Tickle the plastic ivories of this impressive LEGO piano

Every single time we think we’ve seen the most impressive LEGO creation out there, some enterprising individual goes and proves us wrong with the latest example being this piano.

Aside from a stunning black exterior with gold and silver chrome accents, the internal mechanism here is the real star of the show.

yes pop the lid of this miniature piano and you will find 25 working keys connected to a recreation of the string mechanism inside of the real thing.

if that’s not good enough it also features damper and pedal functions, integration with LEGO’s motors to move the keys on their own and an adjustable stool.

See it in action here:

This amazing piece of scale engineering uses 2 798 real LEGO pieces and is modeled on a Concert Grand Piano.

The creator of this build – who goes by “SleepyCow” online – states that this not only an outstanding display piece, but also a teaching tool for those who want to know about the inner workings of a piano.

Now for the kicker: while this piano works exactly how it should, it does not produce music. This is because there is no way for any LEGO element to replicate the tight strings needed, with the substitute here being soft rope pieces that the company produces.

That does little to diminish our love of this project, and we’re sure music could be integrated with something like LEGO’s own BOOST platform that already incorporates sounds.

If you’d like to own one of this scale pianos, you will need to leave your support over on LEGO Ideas. If the campaign reaches ten thousand votes LEGO will look into potentially turning it into a retail set.

At the time of writing the campaign is just short of three thousand votes with around 600 days left. It’s gaining support very quickly we doubt it will miss the 10K mark.
