Apple updates MacBook Air with new specs and recycled aluminium

Apple held its final hardware keynote for the year earlier today in Brooklyn, New York, and one of the star attractions was the new MacBook Air (MBA).

The MBA has long been one of Apple’s best-selling notebook models, and this refreshed model for 2018 looks to be the same.

To that end there are improvements across the board here, with a 13.3inch Retina Display now fitted to the notebook. This latest offering also boast 4 million pixels and quadruples the number seen on previous generation models.

Things have also been improved internally with an 8th Gen Intel dual-core i5 processor taking care of things, and up to 16GB RAM and onboard SSDs that goes all the way to 1.5TB and are said to be 60 percent faster than its predecessor.

Other notable features include Touch ID, which is built into the new keyboard, as well as T2 Security chip designed to keep prying eyes out. Added to this is an aluminium unibody that’s designed completely from recycled materials that Apple says have been re-engineered at a molecular level.

If you like the sound of all that, the MacBook Air is up for pre-order in the States, starting at $1 199 (~R17 504) and will ship to customers next week.

If you reside in SA though, we’ll have to wait and hear when local iStores will begin stocking the refreshed MacBook Air, along with for how much.

For now though this new MBA looks very tempting indeed.
