Hearthstone balance update on the cards and players aren’t happy

Blizzard has finally announced that there will be a balance update for Hearthstone nearly two months after it released the latest expansion – The Boomsday Project.

Players have been begging Blizzard to change certain cards that are too powerful in the current meta game.

In a blog posted late last night Blizzard revealed that a balance update would hit Hearthstone on 18th October but honestly it might as well have left the game alone.

The first change is to Giggling Inventor. Once the patch goes live the summoner of Annoy-o-Trons will cost seven mana up from five. The reason for this, according to Blizzard, is that the card is too effective.

Hello and goodbye turn five.

“We initially tested this card at (6) mana in both the current Standard format as well as with cards that will be released in the future. Ultimately, we felt that its power level was still higher than is appropriate for a Neutral card with no build-around requirements. At (7) mana, we expect Giggling Inventor will find its way into fewer decks in general—and be much less effective in Quest Rogue—while it might remain situationally playable within specific deck archetypes, such as Evolve Shaman,” wrote Blizzard.

Next on the chopping block is Mana Wyrm. The Mage minion will now cost two mana rather than one. The developer says this change should help players deal with the minion more easily during earlier turns as the Wyrm is less likely to snowball out of control.

Finally, and we mean finally because Blizzard is only making changes to three cards, is Aviana.

Yes, the Legendary Druid minion from The Grand Tournament is in line for a change thanks to Juicy Psychmelon. Once the patch is live Aviana will cost 10 mana.

“Changing Aviana to (10) mana means it will no longer be possible to play Aviana and Kun the Forgotten King on the same turn without some additional help from cards like Innervate or The Coin. It also means Juicy Psychmelon will no longer draw both Aviana and Kun. This should make the combos Aviana and Kun produce less consistent, while still allowing decks that use the combos to exist for the players that enjoy playing them,” explains Blizzard.

Aviana and Kun will no longer team up against you for massive Malygos OTKs.

Hearthstone players are upset with these changes because they feel Blizzard hasn’t addressed the issue with Druid and cards such as Spreading Plague.

Many players feel that facing a Druid in Hearthstone is a one-sided affair with cards such as Spreading Plague locking opponents out behind a wall of taunts. Beyond Spreading Plague, cards such as Nourish allow Druids to ramp up the amount of mana they have access to leaving many players staring down a powerful minion they can do nothing against because they have five mana points.

With games such as Artifact and Magic: The Gathering Arena on the market (Artifact releases 28th November) Hearthstone players may be tempted to give another card game a try.

Especially if it increasingly feels like they are butting their head against a tavern door with no answer.
