Bitdefender Total Security 2019 is built to tackle ransomware attacks

It seems like every other week there’s a news story about another data breach in which a large organisation has fallen victim to hackers and the information from its users has been taken for all manner of malicious activity.

Just because the likes of Facebook seem to be targets for hackers, that does not mean the average consumer is safe from falling prey to cyber attacks.

They too need to secure their information and devices, which brings us to the new range of software products from Bitdefender.

The security specialists have three specific products on offer in their 2019 range – Total Security 2019, Internet Security 2019 and Antivirus Plus 2019.

As you can tell by the name its Total Security 2019, which is Bitdefender’s all-encompassing consumer offering, is packing a few new features to keep you protected.

One of the most significant new features is multi-layer ransomware protection.

This Ransomware Remediation technology (as Bitdefender calls it) defends its users from zero-day ransomware attacks in particular. It does so by analysing ransomware behaviour and taking appropriate counter measures, such as automatically backing up and restoring files, which apparently renders the encryption from ransomware useless.

“Bitdefender has been at the forefront of the online security industry since its inception, taking big strides forward with each new generation of products. With our latest consumer line, we are taking protection to new levels. We’re protecting people’s daily online lives using technology that only a short while ago was a security strategist’s seemingly impossible dream,” says Bitdefender’s VP of consumer solutions, Ciprian Istrate.

“With the 2019 line, Bitdefender adopts a more pro-active role as your Security Advisor, a completely new approach to Autopilot technology that evolves from the silent partner that takes care of things to a security advisor that helps users discover how they can benefit from additional security features depending on their specific needs,” adds Istrate.

Some of the other key features in Bitdefender Total Security 2019 include anti-malware protection across Windows, macOS, Android and iOS devices, as well as network threat protection which detects, and blocks brute-force attempts, preventing devices from being compromised in botnet attacks.

Added to this is 24/7 support for assistance from a cybersecurity specialist should you run into any issues.

All three of Bitdefender’s new 2019 software packages are available over one, two or three year-long subscriptions options, with pricing for Total Security in particular starting at R899.99. There is also a first-time buyer discount that brings the starting price down to R450.
