PlayStation has pulled out of E3 2019

When E3 2019 rolls round next year there will be one noticeable absence, as PlayStation confirms that it will not be attending.

This marks the first time that PlayStation would not be appearing at the California-based gaming showcase in 24 years.

As for the reason they’ve decided to pull out of the event, the company notes how the gaming industry is changing, and that has prompted it to look at different ways of engaging with its community.

“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” the company said in a statement to Game Informer.

“PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you,” the statement continued.

Game Informer also asked the company whether it will have any presence at E3 2019, or perhaps hold an event to run alongside the expo akin to EA Play, but they noted that, “We will not activate or hold a press conference around E3.”

This most recent announcement marks the second major event that PlayStation will not be showcasing any games at, with it cancelling its own PSX event for 2018, which normally takes place in early December.

As such we wouldn’t be surprised to see PlayStation pull out of Gamescom or any of the other big gaming expos in 2019.

The big question is how PlayStation plans to showcase its latest exclusive titles and hardware if it does not attend events like E3 2019, especially as the company has been winning the war with Xbox when it comes to the games it has on offer.

“Lots of exciting things to come, and we hope to share shortly. Some of our biggest games will have key milestones next year so we will work hard to blow those up,” concluded PlayStation’s statement.
