Black Friday returns as Eskom declares Stage 2 load shedding

Things are not looking good for South Africans on Friday as Eskom implements load shedding from 09:00 to 22:00 today.

Today’s load shedding follows Eskom’s implementation of the uniquely South African festivity on Thursday. Unlike Thursday however, more load needs to be shed.

At present Eskom has implemented Stage 2 loadshedding which calls for 2 000MW to be shed nationally. Load shedding is implemented as a last resort to protect the national power system from total collapse, according to Eskom.

The implementation of Stage 2 load shedding is quite an upgrade from the “low to medium probability of load shedding” Eskom declared earlier this week.

South African citizens and business have been asked to use electricity sparingly during the implementation of load shedding.

To find out if your area will be affected by load shedding head to the Eskom website or alternatively, if you receive your power bill from the municipality, contact it directly.

We guess Black Friday comes twice a year in South Africa these days.

As an aside, for those wondering why we use images of cats as headers for these stories it’s because load shedding sucks and we feel that a picture of a cat softens the blow of hearing that the lights might go out as you read this.
