Shhh. Sony released a quieter version of the PS4 Pro

Did you know Sony released a new version of the PS4 Pro?

Neither did we, but this version is not like the limited edition models that it likes to unveil for special occasions.

Instead this new model is a quieter version of the PS4 Pro. Sony was able to make it less noisy thanks to a new power supply, with it utilising the same setup as found in the PS4 Slim console.

This updated variant can be distinguished from others by the model number – CUH-7200. The previous console bared the CUH-7100 number, so that should help you spot the difference.

Whether you’ll be able to get your hands on this quieter PS4 Pro remains to be seen, as the first batch was part of the Red Dead Redemption 2 bundle released in the UK and other parts of the globe. That said a larger rollout is likely on the cards.

As for the claim that they’re quieter than the previous generation of PS4 Pro, we have to turn to Eurogamer, which conducted a thorough review of the new console.

They specifically tested out the new model while playing God of War, which is a rather processor-intensive title. According to Eurogamer they measured an average decrease of three decibels while playing the game compared to the previous generation console.

Compared to the launch model PS4 Pro that’s believed to be a drop of around six to seven decibels.

In the greater scheme of things that does not seem like a great number, but when the margins between the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are so slim when it comes to hardware, any kind of edge becomes a feather in the cap of respective gaming camps.

If you’ve held off on buying a PS4 Pro, a quieter console might just be the excuse you’ve been looking for.
