Takealot disables credit card payments on Black Friday 2018

While we were expecting online retailers to be crippled by Black Friday traffic – as has been the case in prior years – so far things appear to be holding strong.

That having been said it hasn’t been completely smooth sailing.

Takealot is host to its own Blue Dot Sale and intermittent technical issues appear to have caused issues with credit card payments.

As such the firm is deactivating credit card payments as and when is necessary.

“Takealot will be deactivating its credit card payment gateway when necessary until its payment provider has fully restored its service. Customers are encouraged to make use of alternative payment methods including EFT via iPay and Payfast among others,” the retailer said in a statement sent to Hypertext.

In spite of these issues Takealot is raking in money.

Following the first hour of the Takealot Blue Dot Sale transactions surpassed the R11.5 million mark. By 08:30AM transactions had surpassed R87 million gross merchandise volume (GMV) which was the total value of transactions for Black Friday 2017.

For those curious the most popular items so far are Tommy Hilfiger For Her perfume, the DStv Explora and Pampers nappies.

We’ll be updating our Black Friday deals from around South Africa throughout the day so be sure to check this link regularly.
