Godzilla and Ghidorah tangle in second King of the Monsters trailer

A second trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters dropped last night, and it serves to add a bit more context as to what this sequel to the well received 2014 Godzilla reboot is all about.

Oh yes, and it also features unfathomably large monsters battling one another and destroying Earth (and parts of humanity) in the process.

Along with the titular monster, who is also Earth’s unofficial protector, we’ve now gotten a better look at three other ancient beasts that will be a part of King of the Monsters – Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah.

The latter (a three-headed hydra essentially) is Godzilla’s greatest nemesis from the Japanese films of the 1950’s and 60’s, and we get to see the pair squaring off towards the end of the second trailer featured below.

While we can clearly tell Godzilla and Ghidorah will duke it out, it remains unclear what role Rodan (a pterodactyl-like creature) and Mothra (a really big moth) will play, and whether either will be allies to Godzilla.

Also a mystery is the part that some of the human cast will play, and in particular Vera Farmiga’s scientist character. If we had to venture a guess, she could have a far more nefarious role in this film than many may realise.

With the film arriving in May next year, Godzilla: King of the Monsters should provide our much-needed kaiju fix for 2019.
