Override: Mech City Brawl launches with dubstep of all things

Despite not having a particular interest in fighting games, we’ve been closely following the movements of Override: Mech City Brawl, and it now has a launch trailer which features dubstep as the main tune.

That aside, this title is looking to do a lot for an indie game. It’s a 3D fighting affair so it has online PVP as a central mode, but there’s a lot more than that.

As the characters here are giant mechs, the devs (Modus Games) have a couch co-op mode similar to Voltron where up to four people can all control different parts of their giant robot.

Those not looking to be so friendly can enjoy splitscreen fighting and there’s even a singleplayer campaign featuring the classic mech versus kaiju, with the latter being invading aliens.

We had our problems with the first beta, but still managed to enjoy our time with the game and were happy to see the devs address some of our concerns. That beta was strictly the online PVP and we’re more interested in the other modes, so our hopes are high for this title right now.

Thankfully we won’t have to wait long to play as the game launches tomorrow, 4th December. It’s available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One so Nintendo Switch players are, unfortunately, left out on this one. Here’s hoping success on these platforms will mean a port later on.

There are two versions of the game for sale: $30 (~R408) buys you the standard edition and $40 (~R544) gets you a “Super Charged Mega Edition” which contains extra mechs and skins. As always we suggest waiting for some initial reviews before spending your money.

We really hope this title can break out of the fighting game bubble to get some mainstream success like Injustice did. While it doesn’t have the DC pantheon to help it get there, we think mechs are a solid replacement.

Oh, and if you don’t main the Mechagodzilla-inspired Metageckon, you’re just no fun.
