3D Print replicates the Iron Man helmet from the Avengers: Endgame trailer

Our first look at Avengers: Endgame begins with Tony Stark talking to the damaged helmet from one of his Iron Man armours, and now you can try that out in the safety of your own home instead of drifting out in space.

This is thanks to a fan 3D print by MyMiniFactory user T-E-C who tells us that the project started out as a remix of an existing model of the Mark 50 helmet.

Using Fusion 360 the prop was “damaged” over the course of three hours by removing sections that are missing, lining these changes up with what is seen in the trailer.

Printing took a bit longer eating up two full days to make a piece measuring in at 26 X 24 X 15 centimetres. Those looking to make one to wear should measure it to fit their head – 110% scale has been recommended here.

With the pieces printed they were joined together with wood glue and filler, sanded and painted with Krylon sprays. Some of the finer details near the damaged sections were applied by hand with a brush. All this finishing work added another six hours to the project.

For the lighting each of the eye sections were fit with LEDs powered by a small battery pack. Parts of a plastic bag were placed over the LEDs to diffuse the light and provide that familiar blue hue.

If you’d like to make your own you can find the files available for free over on MyMiniFactory and there’s a useful guide to go with it.

One addition that we’d love to see here is a small projector to mimic the recording that we see in the trailer. T-E-C says that there’s definitely space for such an addition here, but we imagine it would make this helmet a bit more uncomfortable.
