Acer adds side hinges and big price tag to Predator Triton 900 gaming notebook

The first day of CES 2019 seems very much focused on gaming notebooks and components, with Nvidia showcasing new graphics cards and the likes of Samsung and Asus revealing fresh hardware.

Add Acer to the latter list too, with the Taiwanese company debuting two new Triton gaming notebooks to its Predator lineup.

The one that immediately grabs our attention is the Triton 900, and in particular its rather peculiar side hinges, which Acer has employed for some of its consumer-focused notebooks in the past.

This 17.3″ 4K display sporting offering is designed to be used in a number of different positions, with a regular notebook, tablet and display mode available thanks to the addition of the hinges.

Internally the aforementioned mobile-focused Nvidia RTX 2080 graphics card features, with up to an 8th Gen Intel i7 (8750-H) processor added to the mix.

There’s also 16GB RAM and up to 1TB of NVMe PCIe SSD storage.

Perhaps the most eye-catching aspect of this gaming notebook is the price, which starts at a recommended $4 000 (~R55 867).

At that price one may be more tempted to buy the new Triton 500, which costs $1 800 (~R25 139), has a 15.6″ Full HD (1080p) display and works sans hinges.

Having just been revealed in Las Vegas, there’s no word yet on whether the Triton 900 or Triton 500 will be coming to South Africa, but seeing how other Predator notebooks and hardware have in the past, we should be hearing from Acer in the coming weeks.
