The Notebook Odyssey is Samsung’s latest high-end gaming device

CES 2019 is currently underway in Las Vegas, and the annual event has already kicked off with a number of interesting announcements. One of these comes from Samsung, with the South Korean manufacturer showcasing its new gaming notebook for the year – the Notebook Odyssey.

With Samsung one of the lesser known brands when it comes to the gaming hardware arena, the new Notebook Odyssey needs to be touting quite a bit if the company aims to make the impact it’s hoping to in 2019.

While we have not experienced the machinein person, if the images shared by Samsung are anything to go by, this latest offering isn’t exactly eye catching.

As such, let’s take a gander at what Samsung has placed under the chassis to perhaps prove more tempting.

For one it’s sporting Nvidia’s recently announced GeForce RTX 2080 graphics cards, with ray tracing, along with Intel’s 8th Gen i7 processor powering things. In terms of the important components then, the Notebook Odyssey features some pretty good ones.

Added to this is up to 16GB RAM, along with a choice of either a 256GB SSD or 1TB HDD. There’s also 15.6″, 1080p / 144Hz screen with Nvidia G-SYNC functionality.

To keep things cool Samsung has opted for a pair of Jet Blade blowers, each with 83 blades, as well as a penta-pipe cooling system, although the company has not mentioned just how efficient the setup is.

On the face of it then, the Notebook Odyssey is a well appointed gaming notebook without any truly radical stylings. The only issue we see is the central hinge design, which is not our favourite especially for a notebook of this size.

As for when, or indeed if, the Notebook Odyssey will be coming to South Africa, no local pricing or availability information has been disclosed at this stage.

For now the Notebook Odyssey will land in the States, China and South Korea in the early part of the year, but no recommended pricing has been disclosed.
