Citroen to debut boxy electric Ami One concept car at Geneva Motor Show

The beginning of next month means the world’s motoring media will be descending on Switzerland’s most famous city for the annual Geneva Motor Show. As such several carmakers have already begun previewing some of the vehicles they’ll be debuting there.

The latest is Citroen, which recently detailed its new electric vehicle (EV) concept in the Ami One.

This boxy electric car is specifically designed for urban environments, and therefore should be at home in most major European capitals. It’s also fairly small and can only accommodate two people (driver and passenger), along with very little luggage.

As such this isn’t a family car and is aimed squarely at singles or couples just starting out in life.

The French carmaker also says the Ami One is designed for drivers who could not previously get their hands on a car. This implies the vehicle should be relatively affordable once it leaves the concept phase, but Citroen has not mentioned any potential pricing at this stage, or indeed availability.

As for the specifications of the EV, Citroen says it can muster a top speed of 45km/h and has a driving range of around 99 kilometres from a fully charged battery. Naturally then it’s designed to really work on short hauls and in city centres.

There could then be the opportunity to use the Ami One for ridesharing or short-time rentals when communing around a small city for a day.

Whatever Citroen has planned for it, at least it will look cute at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
