Lenovo refreshes IdeaPad lineup for new year

MWC 19 is currently underway in Barcelona, and the focus is not solely on mobile devices as illustrated by the lineup of new IdeaPad notebooks that the company unveiled on Day One of the week-long event.

There are three new offerings in particular that have attracted our interest, especially as Lenovo has noted that the IdeaPads is one product lineup in particular that it will be focusing its attention on in 2019.

That said there is no official confirmation yet as to which models will be coming to South Africa, or indeed how much they’ll be retailing for at this stage.

Nevertheless let’s jump into the aforementioned three devices.

IdeaPad S540

Kicking things off is the IdeaPad S540, which will be made available in both a 14″ and 15″ FullHD display variants. From a design perspective, the main talking point is the all-aluminium chassis with an emphasis on being highly portable and lightweight.

Internally Lenovo will be offering a choice of 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processors, which will be paired with an Nvidia GeForce MX250 GPU. There’s also an AMD chipset and graphics card option, but the likelihood of that coming to SA are slim.

Lenovo is also touting 12 hours of battery life from the S540, with a Rapid Charge feature that yields two hours of battery life from 15 minutes of charge.

IdeaPad S340

Up next is the even slimmer and lighter S340. This new device too comes in 14″ and 15″ flavours.

Lenovo has also given this year’s models a boost in terms of specifications, opting for an 8th Gen Intel i7-8565U chipset, and a choice of up to an Nvidia GeForce MX250 GPU.

The company is also talking up the smart functionality on the S340, with the slim notebook catering to both Microsoft Cortana and Amazon Alexa. The latter however, will likely not be experienced by South African consumers at this stage should Lenovo decide to launch the device locally.

IdeaPad C340

Rounded up the trio of IdeaPad devices is the C340, which is also a 2-in-1 convertible offering.

It unfortunately does not boast the same amount of battery life as the other models, mustering up to eight hours according to Lenovo, but it does have Rapid Charge to assist when you’re in a bind.

When flipped into its tablet mode, the C340 supports styluses and in particular Lenovo’s own Active Pen should you to design or scribe on the display. Speaking of which the company will keep the 14″ and 15″ trend going, and make both sizes available to purchase.

Availability for all three IdeaPads are expected in select regions sometime in April.
