Eskom anticipates there will be no loadshedding this week

After a week of Stage 4 loadshedding South Africans can expect a small break from the rampant power cuts that have gripped the country.

This is due to Eskom’s generating capacity improving over the course of the last seven days.

“The improvement in plant performance together with replenished diesel and water reserves over the last few days, as well as the increase of imports from Mozambique’s Cahora Bassa to 850MW, has positively shifted system performance,” Eskom said on Sunday.

As a result the risk of loadshedding this week is low, however, Eskom cautions that its systems remain vulnerable and loadshedding might return if they deem it necessary.

“We continue to appeal to customers to continue to use electricity sparingly by switching off geysers and non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand,” Eskom added.

So that’s some good news to get your week started although we must point out that Eskom is not out of the woods yet. Last week minister of public enterprises Pravin Gordhan and Eskom chairperson Jabu Mabuza pledged to report to citizens about the troubles Eskom faces. We are expecting news about that on Friday, 10 days after Gordhan made the promise to the country.

With this news in mind if the lights suddenly go out this week its probably best to report it to your electricity provider whether that be Eskom or your municipality.
