Blizzard shows off new cards for forthcoming Rise of Shadows expansion

Reveal season for the forthcoming Rise of the Shadows expansion for Hearthstone is well underway and yesterday Blizzard gave us some more information about keywords and mechanics.

As you might already be aware there is a new keyword being introduced in Rise of the Shadows – Twinspell.

“Twinspell cards can be played twice. After the first time [you play a Twinspell] a fresh copy is added to your hand that you can play any time you want,” Hearthstone lead designer, Peter Whalen explained.

Twinspells sound a lot like the Echo mechanic that was introduced last year but unlike Echo, copies of cards generated by Twinspell will not disappear from your hand at the end of the turn.

Blizzard also showed off a new Legendary for the Paladin class.

Commander Rhyssa is a three-mana cost Legendary minion with 4/3 stats that has the card-text “Your Secrets trigger twice”.This is rather interesting as Paladin Secrets became something of a rarity since the heady days of the Grand Tournament. The decision to bring back that headache seems strange to us but then, we aren’t the game designers.

Rise of Shadows is currently available for pre-order and you can watch yesterday’s Hearthside Chat below.
