Here’s how to get Thorn in Destiny 2’s Season of the Drifter

The Season of the Drifter kicked off in Destiny 2 last week for Annual Pass holders and this week the former Dredgen has kicked up a fan favourite.

We’re of course talking about the Exotic Hand Cannon Thorn.

The Weapon of Sorrow has returned and getting your hands on it is going to be a Herculean task.

We do need to issue a warning of sorts as we’re going to be covering all the quest steps required to get Thorn. If you’d rather go it alone, then now is the time to stop reading.

When the weekly reset took place we assumed that Thorn would be tied to the Allegiance Quest lines, but we were mistaken. The quest for Thorn and siding with the Vanguard or the Drifter are totally separate quest lines.

So, how do you begin the quest for Thorn given the lack of map markers? Some plucky Guardians have already figured it out and last night we went searching. We’ve embedded a video below which shows you how to find the first step in the Trostland in the EDZ.

Once you have the first step you’ll need to speak to Banshee-44 at the Tower.

Once you’ve spoken to the Exo the grind begins.

Firstly you’ll need to collect 50 Hadronic Essence by doing one or more of the following:

  • Complete bounties for Asher Mir on Io
  • Defeat Warlocks in the Crucible
  • Complete Nightfalls

For this step completing Nightfalls earns you the most points toward completion.

Step two sees you needing to collect 50 Plasteel Plating. To collect this:

  • Complete bounties for Sloane on Titan
  • Defeat Titans in Crucible
  • Complete Blind Well tiers in the Dreaming City

For this step Blind Well clears are your best bet as they award the most points. That having been said Blind Wells take a really long time, especially if you plan on doing the Heroic version.

Step three of the quest tasks you with collecting 50 Sapphire Wave. To do this:

  • Complete bounties for Ana Bray on Mars
  • Defeat Hunters in the Crucible
  • Complete Escalation Protocol (EP) waves

Doing EP will yield the most point although like the Blind Well, these take huge amounts of time.

It’s worth remembering that you can mix up how you complete these quests and unless you’re a maniac who loves Crucible we’d advise avoiding it until you hit the next step.

The penultimate quest step will see you entering the Crucible for a long, long time.

The goal is score 500 points in the PvP arena. To earn points you will need to kill Guardians using the following methods:

  • Void ability kills
  • Hand Cannon kills
  • Void Hand Cannon kills

Your best bet here is to equip your favourite Void sub-class and a Void Hand Cannon and get to work. Your options for weapons are:

  • Kindled Orchid (Black Armory)
  • Thin Line
  • IKELOS HC V1.0.1

You can of course use which ever Hand Cannon you prefer but Void is the name of the game here and the three listed above are decent, especially in the sweat fest that is Crucible. It’s worth noting that getting Void Hand Cannon streaks will increase the amount of points you earn.

Something to mention here is that getting these kills in the Competitive playlist and Iron Banner count for more points. Given that Lord Saladin is not present at the moment you’re stuck with playing Competitive if you want to fast track your progress. Embrace your inner blueberry and load into Competitive solo, come on, you know you want to.

Importantly, being killed will not set your progress back.

As soon as you’ve racked up 500 points you’ll need to head to Tyra Karn who is at The Farm, The Farm. To get there (don’t worry it’s been a while for us as well) open up the EDZ map and fast travel to The Farm in the top right corner.

Here, Khan will send you to do a special version of the Strike, Savathûn’s Song. This special version of the Strike carries a recommended Light Level of 660 so hopefully you’ve spent the last week grinding to increase your power.

Something to keep in mind with this special Strike is that you will need to dispose of Hive Knights as you progress. Do not under any circumstances attempt to one-phase the boss as this will stop the two Knights that spawn during the fight from spawning. Take your time, wait for the Knights then kill the boss.

At the end of all of this you will be granted Thorn. The weapon’s intrinsic perk is Mark of the Devourer which reads,”rounds pierce targets and deal damage over time. Kills with this weapon leave behind Remnants”.

What are Remnants? When you kill a target with Thorn a green orb will drop atop the corpse which, when picked up, will increase the amount of damage over time and will partially refill the magazine.

Enjoy your Thorn, just be cognisant of the implications wielding that weapon might hold.
