Huawei caught fibbing about P30 Pro camera quality

Later this month, 26th March to be more precise, Huawei will unveil its new P30 series of smartphones, with the P30 Pro expected to be in attendance as well.

In the lead up to the Paris-based unveiling, Huawei has been releasing some images teasing the camera quality of the P30 Pro. The problem is those pictures were captured with a DSLR camera, according to GSMArena.

There are three pictures in particular that Huawei has chosen to use, and the one we’ve placed in the header image was actually taken by Tom Pfeiffer, who is affiliated with the Getty Image program. This specific image of an erupting volcano, which looks great, was taken back in 2009 by Pfeiffer, with Huawei still happy to claim it as its own regardless.

This isn’t the first time that Huawei has done this, and to be fair, it’s a practice that a lot of the smartphone industry is guilty of doing.

Our real issue with this, is that Huawei’s flagship phones have always been one of the better performing devices when it comes to camera quality. We’re fans of the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro, and given the Chinese phone maker’s history, the P30 Pro will likely be impressive too.

If anything, this latest snafu just strikes us as being lazy, and now discredits any of the talk around camera quality that Huawei was planning for the 26th March event.

As such Huawei has needlessly given its competitors ammo when comparing the camera performance of their devices against that of the P30 Pro.
