Epson has become the top performer in the local HCP market

Following incredible growth in the 2017-2018 financial year, Epson has become the leader of the South African hard copy peripheral (HCP) market.

This is according to research from GFK which saw Epson’s product volume grow 6.3 percent and value increased 12.8 percent year-on-year.

Looking at a report from the IDC, South Africa is still a very big market for printing. Throughout 2018, the market grew 13 percent in volume and value. This is largely due to so many workflows being reliant on paper. Legal documents, invoices and contracts are all still very much reliant on paper and printing.

That’s not to say printing is antiquated, quite the opposite. Two years ago Epson introduced its EcoTank technology which offers a cost-effective alternative to inkjet and laser printers.

“Epson has seen incredible year-on-year growth in South Africa specifically, which we believe is a result of the reliability and cost-efficiency of Epson’s printing solutions,” consumer sales manager at Epson South Africa, Timothy Thomas, said in a statement.

“The META (Middle East, Turkey, and Africa) regions have achieved impressive growth over the past decade, where inkjet shipments across these markets increased by 7% year-on-year as at 2018, reaching nearly three million in unit sales and over $298 million in value,” Thomas added.

Epson now holds 74 percent of the value share and 72 percent of the volume supply in the continuous ink supply systems market.
