Shots shots shots! Uber is bringing the flu vaccine to you again this year

The temperature has taken a downward turn (seriously can we get a mild Autumn just once) and that means that Winter is on its way.

Of course Winter brings a greater chance of getting the flu and Uber has once again made it possible to get your flu vaccination without having to go into a pharmacy, clinic or hospital.

“With the cold days already here, it’s important that we prioritise our health so that our busy schedules aren’t affected by the flu. Thanks to technology and our amazing partners, Uber is able to bring riders the opportunity to get their flu shots without leaving their homes or offices. All the convenience without any hassle to stay healthy this winter,” country manager for Uber South Africa, Nduduzo Nyanda said in a statement.

The offer extends to Uber users in Johannesburg, Tshwane, Cape Town, Durban and Nelson Mandela Bay. Flu shots will also only be available on 2nd May.

Here’s how to book your flu vaccine through Uber.

  1. Make sure you have the Uber app installed on your device or download Uber on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Only people who are 18 years or older can use the Uber app.
  2. From 10:00 to 15:00, open your Uber app
  3. When you are ready to have the vaccination delivered, set your ‘pickup’ location
  4. Then swipe right on your vehicle options to the “UberWELLNESS” option
  5. The vaccine will be at no cost to you: you will only pay R100 to cover the cost of the trip when you request through the Uber app
  6. The nurse will bring the necessary consent forms and will administer the flu vaccine to a maximum of five people (at the flat rate of R100).

Pretty cool right? Our advice is to get together four other people looking to get the flu vaccine and then split the cost of the R100 trip between you.

Uber does advise that standard Uber waiting times will be in effect, adding that demand is likely to be high.

“Demand will be high and riders are encouraged to be patient when requesting as there could be a slight waiting time depending on the demand, so please be patient and keep on trying,” the firm said.

It’s also probably a good time to thank Discovery Health, Clicks, Dis-chem and Uber for coming together to make this possible.
