One week. That’s the amount of time it’s taken for Eskom’s plan to curb loadshedding for Winter to come off of the tracks.
In a power alert issued this afternoon the utility said that it had lost generating units at its power stations and therefore there was a shortage of capacity.
While Eskom has not yet declared loadshedding it has warned that there is a high risk of Stage 1 loadshedding from 17:00 to 22:00 being implemented today.
Loadshedding will only be implemented if absolutely necessary the utility added.
“The Winter Plan shared on 3 April 2019 indicated that Eskom expects to implement 26 days of loadshedding during the winter period, depending on the level of unplanned breakdowns. Based on the Winter Plan, Eskom has successfully managed to go 5 days without loadshedding where Stage 1 loadshedding would have been implemented,” Eskom said in an alert.
The utility has implored South Africans to use electricity sparingly, urging citizens to switch off geysers and non-essential lighting and appliances.
Here’s hoping loadshedding doesn’t have to be implemented.
