Apple debuts upgraded MacBook Pro lineup and expands keyboard repairs

When Apple debuts a new piece of hardware, especially its MacBook Pro offerings, there is usually plenty of pomp and circumstance. That’s why we were surprised when the company’s latest lineup of notebooks were unveiled rather plainly.

Lack of ceremony aside, this new range is rather noteworthy as they’re the first MacBook Pros to sport models with eight core setups.

Added to this is a choice of 8th or 9th Gen Intel processors, with the latter leading Apple to state that these MacBooks are their fastest ever. More precisely they’re promising a 40 percent improvement in performance compared to the six core sporting MacBook.

Along with the new MacBook Pros, Apple also announced some changes to its repair program, with all notebooks featuring the butterfly mechanism for keys now eligible for repair.

Now back to the new hardware.

There will be a 13″ and 15″ option available, both featuring the company’s trademark Retina Displays.

In terms of the specifications the larger 15″ model will have either a six core i7 setup that clocks at 2.6GHz and boosts to 4.5GHz. The eight core i9 version of the 15″ MacBook Pro registers a clock speed of 3.1GHz and boosts to 5.0GHz when needed. Shifting to the smaller 13″ MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, it does not get the increased cores, still featuring a quad-core setup, but capable of turbo boosting to 4.7GHz.

Both notebooks will ship with macOS Mojave out of the box, along with Apple’s T2 security chip, with up to four Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C ports depending on the model you opt for. There is also a choice of either 8GB or 16GB RAM configurations, as well as SSD options ranging from 128GB to 512GB.

For now no local Apple retailers are listing the new 2019 refreshed MacBook Pro notebooks, but they’re already available to buy Stateside, starting from $1 799 and $2 399 for the 13″ and 15″ models respectively.
