Gauteng school’s 2019 online registrations go live today

2019’s Gauteng online school registrations were scheduled to commence on the 13th May, but were postponed until today (20th May) due to concerns raised by various educational organisations.

This morning Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, said that all systems were a go for the online applications, after reaching an agreement with some of the organisations that had threatened to take the Education Department to court over amended admission regulations.

“We’re changing the entire education landscape and that is where the threat is. People who though our children must be garden boys and tea girls, they’re scared now that our children will be actuarial scientist, that our children will be scientist with their own children,” said Lesufi.

According to EWN, the MEC said that all parents of Grade 1 and Grade 8 pupils will be given an equal opportunity to apply for the 2020 academic year, and the online registrations open from 08:00 am this morning.

Furthermore the MEC said that he was confident that his department had put systems in place to avoid technical glitches.

“So the SGB’s have a limited period where they needed to test the systems whether it won’t take you out, it wont log you out if you forgot your password, all those things. So they’ve tested it,” added Lesufi.

EWN added that parents have been urged to apply on time as high-pressure schools reach their full capacity within minutes of the online system going live.
