HP’s dual-screen Omen X 2S does simultaneous streaming & gaming

The world of gaming and realm of live streaming are going hand-in-hand these days, with services like Twitch proving a popular avenue for viewers and creators alike. As such it appears to be prompting some manufacturers to design products that lend themselves to multitasking in interesting ways.

Case in point the latest notebook from HP’s gaming range – the Omen X 2S.

This particular gaming notebook is sporting two screens, with a 15″ (1080p) option taking care of the main display, and smaller 6″ (1080p) one sitting just above the keyboard. This is by no means a revolutionary design, with the likes of Asus and Acer’s Predator devices sporting similar orientations in the past.

What makes this version particularly noteworthy is the usage that HP has designed it for. Yes it can be used an in-game secondary screen for gamers to change-up the layout of information, but it looks like HP is intending the Omen X 2S to be used a simultaneous streaming and playing notebook.

As such the secondary screen can be used for Twitch streamers in particular to view and interact with their chat, and the main display dedicated to the gaming action. It has similar applications for things like Discord, YouTube or Facebook, depending on what your live streaming platform of choice may be.

The fact that the Omen X 2S is a notebook, and not a desktop PC, also holds its advantages for streamers wanting some portability.

So how does the rest of the notebook fare?

In this regard HP has opted for some highly specced components. In particular a choice of 9th Gen Intel Core i9 processors are on offer, with up to 32GB DDR4 RAM and an Nvidia GeFore RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU taking care of the heavy lifting.

It also features a cooling system that HP says improves the X 2S’ performance by 28 percent, although it’s worthwhile for some independent testing to be conducted to back up the claims.

For now we’ll have to wait and see when HP plans to launch the Omen X 2S locally, with details amiss for now, but it is expected to go on sale Stateside from June, starting at a pricey $2 099.99 (~R29 952).
