New Honor 20 Pro and 20 Lite revealed

Chinese mobile brand Honor, which falls under the same banner as Huawei, recently debuted a pair of new smartphones as part of their 20 series – the Honor 20 Pro and Honor 20 Lite.

While we’d normally be excited to see a new pair of devices from a manufacturer that specialises in value for money products, this week’s unveiling comes at perhaps the worst possible time for the company.

This as Google recently restricted access to its Android operating system to Huawei and Honor devices, with both having three months before Google removes access completely.

As such it places the longevity of both devices up in the air for now, which isn’t really their fault.

So let’s focus on what the 20 Pro and 20 Lite are sporting.

First the Honor 20 Pro, which is the flagship offering here. To that end it has a 6.26″ display (2340×1080) with an all-screen design that has a punch hole for the 32MP front facing camera. Sadly no fingerprint sensor under the display, with it instead mounted on the side.

Internally Honor isn’t holding back, with the 7 nanometer octa-core Kirin 980 chipset found, and paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. Added to this is a quartet of cameras on the rear, with a 48MP wide-angle, 16MP ultra-wide, 8MP telephoto and 2MP macro lenses present.

Now for the Lite version, which too doesn’t skimp on much.

This model has a 6.21 screen (2340×1080) up front, with a teardrop notch for the 32MP selfie camera. Powering the 20 Lite is the Kirin 710 processor, with 4GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage available. The fingerprint sensor on this Honor flavour is found on the rear, along with a trio of lenses – 24MP, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth sensing.

So when are both of these devices hitting the market?

For now there’s no word on if or indeed when South African consumers can purchase the Honor 20 Pro or 20 Lite, as is their local pricing.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Honor and Google at the moment, these phones do look impressive on paper though, and if priced aggressively could do well in SA. As such we’ll keep you posted on whether Honor has plans to launch them locally.
