htxt.africast – Showmax Sport, Libra and Calibra & Dell Technologies Forum Johannesburg

After a week of flu and one of our number being on leave, the Africast makes a triumphant return this week.

First things first, over his holiday Brendyn stumbled across Showmax’s first foray into sport. While the offering is still being Beta tested, Brendyn and Robin speculate about where streaming sports is headed (particularly in South Africa) and whether Showmax will ever host full livestreams of sporting events.

Then, this week Facebook revealed its cryptocurrency and digital wallet to the world – in a way. Libra (the currency) and Calibra (the wallet) are set to launch in 2020 with no exact date given just yet. The idea behind the currency is to give the 1.7 billion unbanked people around the world access to financial services. We’re curious to see how this plays out.

Finally, we chat with country marketing manager at Dell Technologies South Africa, Jason Jenkinson about the Dell Technologies Forum happening in Johannesburg next week.

The globe-hopping event promises to showcase the latest and greatest in technology but there’s more than just cloud solutions to be seen. Members of the Springboks will be attending the event and there is an immersive McLaren driving experience.

That’s it for this week, be sure to check out the links to all the stories we mentioned in this Africast, below.
