Where to livestream the State of the Nation Address June 2019

This evening President Cyril Ramaphose will present the State of the Nation address.

For those scratching your head in confusion thinking we’ve already had a SONA this year, you’re not wrong. This time around however the SONA comes from the 6th Parliament which was elected back in May.

There are always two SONA events in an election year.

The theme for the second event of the year is “Let’s grow South Africa together as we celebrate 25 years of freedom”.

“Since it is a Joint Sitting of both Houses, the Speaker of the NA and the Chairperson of the NCOP host the event. All the three (3) Arms of the State, namely; the Legislature, the Executive and the Judiciary attend this event. It is one of the rare moments whereby all three Arms of the State meet in one place. As one of the important ceremonies of the state, it is broadcasted live on national television so that the general population is afforded the chance to see it,” government explained.

The festivities kick off at 3PM with the welcoming of the president and guests as they walk the red carpet into Parliament. Following the parade of government representatives, a 21-gun salute will take place as well as a fly-over by the South Africa Air Force.

The speech is scheduled to start at 7PM.

For those that don’t have a TV for, Parliament TV will be livestreaming SONA on its YouTube channel.

We’ve embedded the stream below but it will only go live at 3PM. You can also head to the YouTube website to set a reminder so that you receive a notification when the stream starts.
